The International Finance Corporation(IFC), a member of the World Bank Group is the biggestglobal development institute focusing its activities on theprivate sector in developing and transition economies. TheIFC creates opportunities for improving the quality of lifeand reducing poverty. The IFC Corporate Governance Projectwas launched in 2008 to assist joint stock companies (JSC )in the Kyrgyz Republic to improve their corporategovernance, as well as to strengthen capacity of JSC s forattracting investment. This project is the result of alogical extension of the IFC Corporate Governance Program inCentral Asia launched in Kazakhstan in 2006 and inTajikistan in 2007. The project aims to improve corporategovernance practices in JSC s including banks. As part ofthe project, the project team works to involve ingovernmental working groups in legislative and enforcementreform in the area of corporate governance in the KyrgyzRepublic. To raise awareness of the population on issuesrelating to corporate governance, the project conducts thecampaigns to inform the wider public of the latest trends inimproving corporate governance practices.
