Turkey has recently experiencedsignificant population growth, gross domestic product (GDP)growth, and modernization. The economic structure in Turkeyhas been changing rapidly due to privatization and globalgrowth. This report examines men and women’s perception offactors that are perceived to shape their economic mobility,access to labor markets, and entrepreneurship opportunitiesacross multiple community contexts in Turkey. Relevantliterature and data was first reviewed to inform thehypotheses and survey analysis. Based on the review of therelevant literature, it is expected that in terms of themiddle class overall, men and women will report a lack ofeducation and appropriate skills as barriers to bothemployment and entrepreneurship opportunities. Economicmobility, supported by a thriving and open labor market,targeted policies, and an enabling environment forentrepreneurs, is a key requisite for improving livingstandards, wellbeing, and the reduction of unemployment andpoverty. The first section gives introduction. The secondsection discusses research approach and defines hypotheses,which are later addressed using the qualitative surveyinformation. The third section presents the results andfindings derived from the analyzed information and data. Thefourth section summarizes the main conclusions and providesrecommendations for policy makers. Finally, the annex coversan overview of the country context with special emphasis onthe labor market in Turkey, women’s roles in society andeconomy, and labor policy reforms in Turkey.
