Despite significant progress in closingthe gender gap in education, there is a significantdisparity between male and female labor participation ratesin Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). Among men aged 15 to 64years, 65.7 percent participate in the labor force comparedto only 41 percent of females in the same age group. It isestimated that BiH forgoes around 16 percent of grossnational income due to gender disparities in labor forceparticipation. The conflicting demand of women's timefor care and work activities represents a fundamentalbarrier to economic participation and generates a viciouscircle of low labor market attachment and prominence of thecare provider role that leads to increased vulnerability andgender-based inequalities.
