Supply-demand tension has taken its tollin various countries around the world over the last severalyears. Governments and utilities have faced gaps betweenelectricity supply and demand, which has led to blackoutsand load shedding and translated into electricityshortfalls. While countries look to avoid the prospects ofsupply shortages by, inter alia, strengthening planningcapacity and working to achieve a sounder and moresustainable electricity sector, the possibility of shortagesin the future remains. This document summarizes theframework for action and a broad menu of options availableto policymakers to bridge a supply demand gap in the short-to medium-term.
