This policy note aims to advance ourunderstanding of urban forced displacement, induced byconflict, by looking at the issue from the perspective ofreceiving towns and cities. It explores why we need adifferent approach to addressing urban forced displacement;how to “think differently” about urban forced displacementalong the humanitarian-development assistance spectrum; whatwe can learn from existing urbanization and other relevantexperiences to inform humanitarian and developmentresponses; and what “thinking differently” means for local, national, and international development actors. The primaryaudiences of the note are development and humanitarianpractitioners as well as policy makers who are increasinglyconfronted with the urban dimensions of protracted forced displacement.
