【 摘 要 】
Long neglected by economists, childlabor has experienced a sudden resurgence of interest as asubject of research and analysis since the mid-1990s. Thisis surprising at first glance, because the global incidenceof child labor has been on the decline for several decadesnow. What accounts for the increased interest? One factor isthe growing emphasis in the development literature onpoverty reduction, particularly among the most vulnerablesections of the population, which includes children, especially working children. Simultaneously, with theheightened recognition of the importance of human capitalaccumulation as a catalyst and perhaps even a prerequisitefor development, child labor is viewed as a major impedimentto economic progress.
