【 摘 要 】
Given the increasing frequency andseverity of extreme weather events, it is useful tounderstand the lessons learned from recent natural disastersin Ha’apai, Tonga, and Christchurch, New Zealand. Despitevastly different circumstances, the two experiencesdemonstrate that power outages can be shortened throughaccess to adequate human resources, immediate and frequentcommunication with the public, good pre-disastermaintenance, and standardized equipment. By attending tothese factors, utilities can become more resilient and helpcommunities recover more quickly.
