【 摘 要 】

This brief has provided a basic profileof early childbirth in Pakistan. Measures of earlychildbirth are high. The share of women ages 18-22 who hadtheir first child before 18 is 6.8 percent and it hasdecreased over time. The share of women with their firstchild before 15 is at half a percent. Early childbirth isassociated with lower wealth and lower education levels, andhigher labor force participation. These are however onlycorrelations, not necessarily causal effects. Other briefsin this series look at potential causal effects.
