The World Bank Group in partnership withthe Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, established theHealth in Africa (HIA) Initiative in 2008. Its mission is tocatalyze sustained improvements among the poor in Africa byincreasing access to quality private sector health-relatedgoods and services as well as to provide financialprotection against the impoverishing effects of illness.
