Financing infrastructure in emergingmarkets is a critical global challenge for sustainabledevelopment. Through a new International Finance Corporation(IFC) program, private institutional investors can directlyparticipate in the evolving infrastructure asset class inemerging markets. The program, IFC’s managed co-lendingportfolio program for infrastructure, creates a structurethat overcomes several hurdles that have inhibited the flowof private capital to emerging market infrastructureprojects. It provides an innovative model to mobilizefinancing for development that combines financing frominsurance companies, project origination and creditenhancement from IFC, and support from public sector donors.
