Chemical composition plays an important role in determining the structure of stars. Its influence comes mostly through the sensitivity of opacities on the atomic spectra and absorption features of the elements making up a star. As most variable stars are unstable precisely because of how opacity behaves in relations to perturbations, it stands to reason that chemical composition be of fundamental interest when studying pulsating stars.
