The Chemistry and Metallurgy Research (CMR) facility and TA-55s Plutonium Facility-4 (PF- 4) are nonreactor nuclear facilities owned by the U.S. Department of Energy and operated by the University of California. The Nuclear Materials Technology (NMT) Division is responsible for oversight of CMR and TA-55. NMT acquired CMR operations in early 1998. Subsequently, lowlevel waste (LLW) operations for NMT grew from providing service for about 300 people to providing service for about 750 people, including Los Alamos National Laboratory employees, contract personnel, and union crafts. NMT-7's mission is to safely handle, package, ship, store, and document nuclear and nonnuclear hazardous and nonhazardous waste for the Laboratorys nuclear materials. NMT-7 operations cover activities at two separate facilities: TA-55 and CMR.
