The problems collaborating with others across the network are apparent to anyone who has tried doing it. That being the case, we should attempt to create an environment that doesnt have those issues. One approach is to make it appear to people and programs that there is only one computer in the world. In building such a system well have to solve problems of scalable performance, naming, security, discovery, and manageability. If were to succeed in hiding the boundaries between machines, the solutions we come up with will have to be part of a coherent architecture. Notes: Copyright 2006 IEEE.
