【 摘 要 】

The annual global burdens of breast cancer arecurrently 2.3 million cases and 700,000 deaths, twothirds of all deaths occurring in Asia and Africa, andthese burdens are increasing.3 Where are weaddressing these challenges and where not? We arecertainly increasing our understanding of the biologyof breast cancer and developing more specificeffective therapies, but a dominant goal of medicalactivities in many countries has become financialgain, and the organizational model of services hasbecome grounded in optimal business practicesinstead of health care as a human right for all.Consequently, we are failing to serve the majority ofwomen in the world who develop breast cancer. Weneed to dispassionately consider the shortcomings ofour interventions for this disease and take to heartlessons from the COVID pandemic about populationhealth in the CME for breast cancer care.4 TheContinuing Education Program Mission Statement ofASCO focuses on objectivity and rigor in increasingthe competence and performance of the oncologyteam as well as continual assessment of practicegaps.5 This commentary addresses critical gaps.
