【 摘 要 】

Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is a diffuse type tenosynovial giant cell tumor, which are benign but locally aggressive tumors presenting in joint, tendon sheath, and bursa synovium. This tumor most commonly occurs in the knee; it is rare in the head and neck region, where it most commonly arises in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). We describe a case of PVNS occurring in the TMJ with extension into the external auditory canal and middle cranial fossa. The imaging characteristics, differential diagnosis, and treatment of PVNS is discussed.
