【 摘 要 】
The initial imperial success derived of the immediate abdication of the Bourbons in Spain looked like foretelling rapid benefits for the all-powerful Napoleon. Nevertheless, the French invasion exacerbated immediately the spirits of a country as accommodated to the despotic impositions of the Bourbons as enemy of the usurpation that Joseph-Napoleon Bonaparte was going to represent from July, 1808. Before such a scene, Napoleon noticed that the strategy necessary to gain the support of the Spaniards required the application of a perfectly orchestrated advertising campaign. Among the means used in this subtle psychological warfare, undoubtedly, the press was one of the most outstanding instruments of attracting opinions. In this paper, we have tried to study the propagandistic use of the Gazeta de Madrid by French authorities during the first two years of the battle and, above all, the favourable image that, in general terms, was presented of the king Joseph-Napoleon Bonaparte, something logic under the newspaper ideology in favour of Joseph.
