【 摘 要 】

Brazilian urbanization has often been presented via the opposition of the metropolitan vs. the nonmetropolitan. However, this article proposes to envisage the question through another perspective, which highlights sub-national spaces and urbanization based on fragmented spaces. This approach demonstrates how the abundance of nature, the contiguity of rural and urban zones, along with indigenous people and quilombolas, constitute, together, the city.
