【 摘 要 】

Integration and Tradearespecialcompetitivephenomenon thatmustexisttoeach othervalid. Priorto thecolonialdaystradeasalwaysexisted betweentheWestAfrican Statesandtheircolonialgiants. However,itisno longernewsthatduring thiseratradewasnotofmutualbenefitsessencedueto the experiencesofcheap exportfromcoloniesand costimportfromcolonialmasters.Itis`within thisvein that foreign nationsofthewesternstatesgain much financialprowessabovetheAfrican states,thustradeinwest in African could beliken to clienteleapproach were westAfrican countriesarenotfreetobeequalpartners in business.Thisand manyotherglaring effectsofcolonialismled to a homefrontfightagainsttheshackles of colonialismthatwithin theregion.With so manydecadesofdecolonization in Africa thereissupposed to bea betterlife,good governance,peaceand equalaswellascompetitivedevelopmentandadvancementwith otherwestern societies.Moreover,thiscan onlybeachievedthrougheffective trade andcollective integrationwithinthesubregionasnonation,peopleorcontinentcanthrivebetterwithoutintegrative togetherness.Thisresonatea driveto thoroughlyinvestigatetheextentofintegration andtradein thewest African sub regionevenafterindependencehasbeenachieved asapeopleandasacontinent.Thestudy synthesizesitsdiscoveryfromprimaryand secondarysourcesofdata,with thisitwasestablished thateven afterindependencehasbeenachievedwestAfricanstatesstill struggleswithreal achievement asfarastrade and integrationareconcern.Someofthereasonsbehind thesetbackare:debtrelief,membership ofother foreign organizations,crisisandpoliticalinstability,lackofmodern technologyamong others.Thepaper recommendsthat: Africa should continueto beasthecenterpieceofherforeign policy,tradebarriers should beeradicatedanda common currencyamong others.
