【 摘 要 】

This article examines the properties of hope as they appear in the famous poem by Victor Hugo, “What says the shadow’s mouth”. It attempts to analyze the functioning and particularities of the literary text, while putting to test the heuristic value of the semiotics of passions and tensive semiotics, particularly the concept of “concession”, which is, according to Claude Zilberberg “one of the major chapters of event semiotics” (2012, p. 46).
