【 摘 要 】

The brief monarchical-democratic reign of Amadeo I in Spain continues to pose important questions to historians. Although his role as a moderating power and his commitment to act according to a sincere constitutional practice has deserved the attention of various investigations, the expectations about the monarchical system of the dynastic parties that disputed the power during his reign have not been raised. Nor has it been evaluated if that constitutional practice corresponded to the political parameters that those parties defended. Therefore, the aim of this paper consists in analysing the monarchical project of the Progressive-Democratic Party (also called Radical Party), as well as to explain the reasons for the disenchantment of the radical militancy with respect to the Monarchy, a process that was parallel to the republican reorientation of this party.
