【 摘 要 】
The life of the Portuguese converso Manuel Bocarro Francês (Jacob Rosales after his reconversion to Judaism) presents the singular case of a complex trajectory in different European courts, where the pursuit of personal success as physician, astrologer and poet went hand in hand with the pursuit of a prophetic vision of the political role of his country. The article shows that the continuity of this trajectory was made possible by the formal attachment of Bocarro to a literary and linguistic framework determined by the imperial dreams of Portugal in the first half of the 17th century: to express the epic vision of a world submitted to the Portuguese monarchy, it had, even in a place as far as Hamburg, to use the forms codified by the literary tradition from Camões.
