【 摘 要 】

This article aims at analysing the translation of two poems by Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) carried out by Augusto de Campos (1931) and published in 2008 inthe collected writings Emily Dickinson: Não sou ninguém [“Emily Dickinson: I’m nobody”]. Firstly, some elements of Dickinson’s poetic shall be set forth, relying on Gilbert and Gubar (1984), Donoghue (1969), Sewall (1963), and Daghlian (1987). Afterwards, Augusto de Campos’ figure as a poet and translator shall be highlighted, emphasizing his comments on translation as to understand his translation practice (Campos, 2004; 2006; 2008). Finally, Augusto de Campos’ translation of two poems by Dickinson shall be analysed as to identify the relationship between translator’s theory and the practice. This rather discursive analysis, besides the syntactic and formal plan, endeavors to focus on the textual semantic layer, with no intentions to deploy any prescriptive judgments.
