【 摘 要 】
The present study examines the historiography of the issue of foreign trade relations of the Republic of Moldova in 1991-2016. It is appreciated that the catastrophic situation in the Republic of Moldova after the declaration of independence was a consequence of the organization of trade during the socialist period, when the republic did not have independent external economic relations. At the beginning, the foreign trade policy promoted by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova had a protectionist character, initially it was oriented to the West, and since the spring of 1994 to the East. After 1993, trade policy was liberalized. However, despite the liberal trade regime, Moldova has the lowest level of access to foreign markets. In 2000-2009, the republic was not of particular interest to the EU. The way out of this situation was outlined by the urgent signing of the Association Agreement with the EU. The CIS is regarded as an association without future. Relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation worsened after the ratification of the Association Agreement with the EU (2014), which undermined Russia’s fundamental interests in the region, and as a result of measures taken by Russia, Moldova lost the privileges it enjoyed in trade with this state. Russia has been consistently promoting the policy of economic humiliation of Moldova in order to stop its progress towards the EU. The signing of an association agreement with the EU and the creation of a free trade zone provoked the discontent of Russia, which, as before, decided to punish Moldova by applying sanctions against it for its relations with Europe.
