【 摘 要 】

Mainstream religions and their institutions have since the 1960sbeen gradually bleeding to death because of their membersleaving them in search of rather more inspirational experienceselsewhere. Christian educationists are concerned about thisdevelopment, because it means that these churches have beenlosing their capacity for entering into meaningful tripartitepedagogical partnerships with family and school. A descriptionof the problem of churches losing members is followed by abrief depiction of spirituality, something that can be experiencedboth within Christianity and elsewhere. The inability of main- stream churches to let their members experience true Christianspirituality compels the latter to go elsewhere in search of it. It isconcluded that spirituality is no “new” religion after all as far asChristianity is concerned. It is in fact the quintessence ofChristianity, but has through the ages become deeply buried inthe mainstream religions and churches under thick layers ofdogmatic and other superficialities.
