【 摘 要 】

The image of Italy in the 1970s is tied up with the expression “years of lead” (anni di piombo), a reference to the frequency of extreme-right bombings during this period, as well as to the assassinations carried out by Marxist-Leninist organizations. Political violence generated mistrust in more ways than one : mistrust as an emotional response produced by devastating terrorist incidents ; mistrust as a sedimented suspicion of the State, which was accused of responding too slowly to the violence, and even of having actively contributed to it ; and mistrust as the scaffold of critical militancy. Mistrust appears as a hybrid historical object, at the crossroads of the fields of political cultures and “collective emotions”. It is both evident in the historical sources and essential to understanding a period characterized by a distrust of the political and media system which continues in Italy today.
