【 摘 要 】

The data presented here provide a picture of the Canadian situation from the standpoint of the organization and reduction of working times (ORWT) and the place of work, and make it possible to determine to what extent ORWT can be seen as a solution to stress and work-family balance problems, or even how the organization of work time can be a source of difficulty and stress. We studied the situation of employed men as well as women and attempted to determine whether it is the presence of women in an organization or the presence of working parents that induce organizations to implement work-family balancing and ORWT measures. We found that workers without children are more often found in jobs that offer more services for the elderly and for childcare. We also show that regarding ORWT, behaviours of women without children are often closer to those of men, but that the presence of children is a major factor in explaining the aspirations of men regarding working time. Few studies have investigated these issues from this angle and it is clear that the presence of children is often more of a determining factor than the fact of being a woman, while women are still clearly more concerned when daycare services or care for the elderly are involved.
