【 摘 要 】
This article was elaborated from a case study carried out at the Pedro Virgínio Municipal School, located in the district of Santa Terezinha, rural area of the municipality of Jitaúna/BA (municipality located 383 km from Salvador). Difficulties for the development of the discipline of Physical Education, offered for the classes of the sixth to ninth year of elementary school. For the data collection was used the observation of the classes and the application of a semi-structured questionnaire. The study showed that although the field education legislation has advanced in several respects the school in question remained on the fringes of public power and this situation has hampered the development of all disciplines of the school curriculum, not just physical education. Roughly speaking, the lethargy of public power has made it difficult to build a quality school that works on themes and content that respect, value and strengthen the culture and identity of the rural population.
