【 摘 要 】

Object detection and identification are fundamental visual tasks andrecent work suggests that it is primarily objects, rather thanlow-level salient regions, that attract our attention. This raisesthe question of which objects are important in the context of avisual scene. The current eye-tracking study investigates howdifferent features (attentional, visual and linguistic) influencethe likelihood that a given object in a scene will be named. Wecarried out an object naming task involving 24 participants and 100photographic images covering a wide variety of scenes. Images weredisplayed for five seconds. Then the image was removed, andparticipants had to name objects that had been present in thescene. We find that the amount of visual attention directed towardsan object, its position and saliency, along with linguistic factorssuch as word frequency, animacy, and semantic proximity, allsignificantly influence whether it will be selected for naming ornot.
