【 摘 要 】

Abstract A nursery school with a skip floor design is situated at the top of a fluvial terrace. This building comprises 4‐tiered floors that reflect the terraced landform characteristic of Iida City. Each grade has a triplet‐type classroom with an environment and role that is highly individuated by the arrangement of various textures of materials. In addition, a semi‐outdoor “grand staircase” is set in the east side of the site, connecting the ground level to the top floor directly and providing 3‐dimensional circulation from the inside to the outdoors. In addition to serving as tiered stands for parents to use at events such as athletic festivals, it plays a symbolic role in the locality. By designing the space in a way that fosters children's development of crisis management skills, this nursery aims to allow children to be active within and outside the building as their minds and bodies grow.
