【 摘 要 】

Numerous studies in recent year have renewed our general knowledge of the architecture, gardens, sculptures and paintings of Marly. They have allowed a more precise analysis of the chronology of the work, the role of artists and decorators, the unfolding of sojourns and the significance of the domain. However, a thorough approach to specific aspects periodically brings an unexpected understanding. Indeed, several issues have not yet been explored. Ongoing research and new work will stimulate fresh approaches in the most varied fields: excavations, methods and materials of construction; interior decoration, fixtures and arrangement; staff and workers, for a social and administrative history: court life at Marly and its developments under the reigns of Louis XV and Louis XVI. To this end, in addition to the preserved vestiges that remain to be, there are many archives still available. Even the best-known sources hold many possibilities, such as the accounts of the Batiments du Roi or the watercolour albums from the end of Louis XIV’s reign. Additionally, over a century of administrative records are well preserved. It is therefore necessary to address new opportunities for research on Marly, and consider the possibilities of illuminating many little-known aspects of the castle’s life that, elsewhere, have not left many traces or testimonies.
