【 摘 要 】
Polio Eradication Programme (PEP) in Turkey has been implemented since 1989 in cooperation with World Health Organization (WHO), General Directorate of Primary Health Care of Ministry of Health, Tissue Culture and Enterovirus Laboratory in Virology Department of Refik Saydam Hygiene Center. In the frame of PEP, feacal samples from patients with acute flask paralysis (AFP) and those from their contact cases had been sent to our laboratory which is a confirmed by WHO as the National Laboratory, by Provincial Health Directorates between January and October 1999. A total of 613 feacal samples consisting of 307 samples from 168 AFP cases and 306 from 285 contact cases have been examined for poliovirus and nonpolio enterovirus isolation and identification. Various modifications of poliovirus type 1, 2 and type 3 have been identified in 31 feacal samples out of 168 AFP cases and 9 feacal samples out of 35 contact cases. All isolated polioviruses had been sent to RIVM Institute (European Reference Center for Poliomyelitis, Bilthoven, the Netherlands) for confirmation and intratypic differentiation of polioviruses as Sabin-like (SL, vaccine derived strain) or Non Sabin-like (NSL, wild type poliovirus). Until October 1999, all isolated polioviruses were SL. We have seen AFP cases mostly on April, May and June and again mostly poliovirus type 3 has been isolated from AFP and contact cases.
