【 摘 要 】

Abstract: We present here two original documents with translations of José Hernández's Martín Fierro into Yiddish, one of the languages that arrived in Argentina with the mass Jewish immigration starting in 1889. The translators, Samuel Glasserman and Kehos Kliger, undertook their monumental task in the 1930s and the 1970s respectively. To place these documents into their context, we start by considering the significant Yiddish literary production in Argentina, especially regarding what has been called “Yiddish criollismo”, and the impact of that creative activity on the transnational axis as well as on local culture. We briefly characterize and compare the versions of the epic poem by both translators. Further, we emphasize the value of these documents in terms of their quality and of the interest of making them available to colleagues in different fields, since the originals are held in private archives belonging to descendants of Glasserman in Argentina and of Kliger in Israel.
