Factors associated with acute medication overuse in chronic migraine patients | |

【 摘 要 】
Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of psychiatric disorders inpatients diagnosed with chronic migraine with and without acutemedication overuse. Methods: Seventy-two volunteers were recruitedfrom a Family Health Program of the Paraisópolis community inSão Paulo (SP), Brazil. These patients were submitted to a detailedheadache questionnaire. All participants were submitted tophysical and neurological examinations. The following variableswere analyzed: age, gender, education level, body mass index, typeof overused medication, headache characteristics, and caffeineconsumption, lifetime anxiety and mood disorders. Results: Outof 72 patients, 50 (69%) had chronic migraine with medicationoveruse, and 22 (31%) had chronic migraine without medicationoveruse. Factors such as age, gender, education level, body massindex, type of overused medication, headache characteristics, andcaffeine consumption were not significantly different between thetwo studied groups. Lifetime anxiety and mood disorders weremore common in patients with acute medication overuse (p=0.003and p=0.045, respectively). Conclusion: This study has shown asignificant association among chronic migraine and medicationoveruse with lifetime mood and anxiety disorders in patients of thestudied population. No association was found for other researchedpsychiatric disorders.
