Strategic approach to waste management planning in the Republic of Serbia: Current situation and prospects

【 摘 要 】

For the last couple of years the Republic of Serbia adopted the basicpostulates of waste management compliant with EU experiences. Wastemanagement system involves a set of measures and activities aimed at wastequantities reduction, its reuse, appropriate waste handling and hygienicdisposal of the remaining waste. All the mentioned processes, within thewaste management system, have been defined by strategic and planningdocuments adopted at the state level. The strategic and planning documentscome from primary legislation and from a series of by-laws adopted in thelast three to four years. This paper provides a strategic approach to wastemanagement planning by way of the analysis of documents and policies and theanalysis of the current situation of municipal waste and special wastestreams management. Specific guidelines have been recommended i.e. theprospects of waste management have been analyzed taking into account thecurrent level of development, on the one side, and the necessity of regardingthe standards and principles of sustainable waste management in accordancewith EU experiences, on the other side.
