【 摘 要 】

Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmiaobserved in clinical practice. While the thromboembolicevents are the most feared complications, these complicationsalone are responsible for 15% of all strokes.Anticoagulation therapy is the most effective way to preventthis significant complication caused by AF. Due tothe disadvantages related to the recently launched neworal anticoagulants, warfarin still maintains its dominanceas the gold standard agent. Pharmaceutical agents aswell as demographic characteristics (age, sex, the typeof AF, co-morbidities etc.) of the patients are crucial toprovide effective coagulation. Since most of the studieson demographic characteristics of AF patients and theprofile of oral anticoagulant use originate from the Westand Far East, they do not reflect the real characteristics ofour country. In this study, by analyzing the epidemiologicalstudies conducted among AF patients in our country,we aimed to bring literature in data related to our society.Key words: Atrial fibrillation, anticoagulation, demographiccharacteristics, epidemiology, guidelines
