【 摘 要 】

In the process of consolidating a deep and comprehensive free trade area with the European Union, the increase of the national competitiveness has become a major objective. The purpose of this paper is to assess the competitiveness of the national economy in 2016, through its main final and intermediary indicators and determinant factors, in conformity with the methodology elaborated by the National Institute for Economic Research of the Republic of Moldova (NIER). The main results of the investigations reside in providing a comprehensive diagnosis of economic and social processes that help determine the level of national competitiveness and identify major constraints.
