An Adaptation of E-learning Standards toM-learning

【 摘 要 】

The exploitation of technological advances inlearning has result in an exponential progress in this fieldthrough e-learning applications in the last decade, andcurrently through the emergence of a new concept called mlearning.M-learning is defined as the use of mobiletechnologies for learning; m-learning must benefit from elearningtechnological advances in order to avoidreinventing the wheel. Nevertheless, m-learning, which ischaracterized by the use of mobile devices, permits, forexample, the learners' mobility during their learning, and,as opposed to e-learning, allows a continuous change of thecontext. Moreover, m-learning faces some constraintscaused by the use of its mobile technologies such as thelimited screen size, reduced energy, resolution capacity andlocation change during an activity. Yet, there is anagreement among most research laboratories interested ine- and m- learning on the parallel use of these two learningenvironments. Therefore, it would be more sensible to allowcommunication and exchanges, to facilitate the sharing oflearning subject matters and data between the twoenvironments, and thereby to avoid the reproduction ofcontents that already exist. In other words, an educationalheritage which is exploitable independently of theenvironment of its development must be created. Theutilization of standards can offer pedagogical contents somestructures which facilitate the interchangeability between eandm- learning. In order to ensure the interoperabilitybetween e- and –m learning platforms and to take intoaccount the specificities of m-learning, we have adopted thealready existing standard LOM and the specification IMSLD.
