【 摘 要 】

This article deals with the consequences of the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in the Asturian Press, both in its formal and material aspects and in its contents. The division of Asturias into two enemy camps led to the development of two presses, not only ideologically in conflict but also very different in their form. Thus, the rebel journals continued the trends of the prewar press while the republicans clearly broke with them. In spite of this, the Press of both factions coincided in adopting the new primary function of uplifting the morale of the civilians in the rearguard and the soldiers in the frontline. This purpose affected all the contents in the journals and particularly the treatment of the news of the war, following new and constantly improving models that clearly showed that to inform was no longer the aim of the Asturian war press.
