【 摘 要 】

TheissueofhomosexualitytendstobeavoidedinthepublicdiscourseinIndonesia.Heteronormative constructions based on religious teachings lead to a negative stigma against homosexuals, producing injustice and discrimination. The story of Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19:1-26 considered as a reference for punishment against homosexuals is used as an excuse to legitimize discrimination and hatred by particular grups of Christians. This study uses historical criticism method in the biblical hermeneutic work and qualitative methods in the field research. The finding show that the story is a criticism of the xenophobic attitude of the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah as well as a way of promoting the importance of the culture of hospitality.
