Background:Intheworld,itisestimatedthat36.9millionpeoplearelivingwithHIV(PLHIV).Tuberculosis(TB)remainsastheleadingcauseofdeathamongPLHIV.ThisstudyaimedtodeterminethepredictorsofTBamongHIVpositivepatients.Methods:Thiscross-sectionalstudywasbasedonthedatafrom366patientswithHIV/AIDSacquiredfrom2010to2013inAbadanandKhorramshahrcities,southwestofIran.Demographicandclinicaldatawereobtainedfrompatients’medicalrecordsinAbadanandKhorramshahrtriangularclinics.UnivariateandmultivariablebinarylogisticregressionmodelswereusedtoidentifyTBpredictorsamongHIV/AIDSpatients.Results:TheprevalenceofTBpatientswas21.9%amongHIVpatients.About57.4%ofthepatientswerebelow35yearsofage,andmostofthem(85.5%)weremale.UnivariatelogisticregressionshowedastatisticallysignificantassociationbetweentheoccurrenceofTBandexplanatoryvariablesincludingsex,imprisonmenthistory,HCVandHBVstatus,addiction,stageofdisease,CD4cellandTLC(Totallymphocytecount)count.Inmultivariateanalysis,beingaddicted(adjustedOR=7.03,95%CI:1.28,38.66)andpositiveHBV(adjustedOR=4.28,95%CI:1.53,12.00)wereassociatedwithincidenceofTBafteradjustingforage,sex,phaseatdiagnosis,addictionandHBVstatus.Conclusions:AddictionandHBVinfectioncanbeconsideredaspredictorsofincidenceofTBinHIV/AIDSpatientsthenearlydiagnosisofTBespeciallyinhigher-riskgroups,suchasthosewithaddictionandHBVinfectionisrecommended.
