ThegenusParaschisturaintheHariRiverbasinisreviewed,anddiagnosesarepresentedforallthethreerecognizedspecies.ParaschisturacristataandP.turcmenicaareconsideredvalid;andP.turcomanaisrevalidated.ParaschisturaturcomanaisapoorlyknownspeciesfromtheKushkRiverintheMurghabdrainageattheborderofAfghanistanandTurkmenistan,itsvalidityhasbeenquestionedandasynonymywithP.turcmenicahasbeensuggested.Inthisstudy,wecompareP.turcmenicawiththesyntypesofP.turcomana.AcomparisonwiththerelatedtaxaP.cristataandP.turcmenicarevealsthatP.turcomanacanbeseparatedfromthemby7½branchedraysindorsalfin,scalelessbody,elongatedandshallowbody,shallowcaudalpeduncle,andcolourpatternincludingobviousdarkcrossbars.Thepresenceoftwoadditionalundescribedspeciesissuggestedfromthebasin.
