【 摘 要 】
Background:Antibioticshaverevolutionizedmedicineinmanyrespects.Regrettably,theuseofthesewonderdrugshasbeenaccompaniedbytherapidappearanceofresistantstrains.Salmonellaserotypeenteritidisisoneoftheimportantcausesofhumanillness;resistanceofthesebacteriatoantibioticspreventsthesuccessofpropertherapy.Bacteriophagecouldbeusedasanalternativetoconventionalantibiotictherapy.Objectives:ToformulateIraqitherapeuticphagecocktailscomposedof,in-laboptimized,highlyspecificphagesagainstSalmonellaenteritidis,toevaluateandmeasuretherateofbacterialresistancetotheformulatedphagecocktails.MaterialsandMethods:Salmonellaenteritidisbacteriawereisolatedfromhumansamplesandtestedforantibioticssusceptibility,thenspecificlyticphagesforthesebacteriawereisolatedbyspotlysisassay.Afterwards,phagetitrationwasconductedandexaminationofphagecharacteristicswasdonebytoplayerplaqueassay.Testingofbacterialresistancetotheformulatedphagescocktailswasdetermined.Results:SevenphageswereisolatedforSalmonella,eachphagewasuniqueinitscharacteristicsincludingclarity,shape,size,andedgeofplaquesformedandtheirtiter.Conclusion:Phagecocktailsaremoreeffectivethanindividualphagesastheyshowclearerplaquesandlessresistancerate.Thisstudyconcludesthatphagetherapyisaverypromisingalternativetotraditionalantibiotictherapy
