【 摘 要 】

Thesignificanceofairwayinflammationinasthmahasbeencompletelyunderstood.Oxidativestressalsoappearstoplayanimportantroleinthepathophysiologyofasthma.Lycopeneasapotentantioxidantandanti-inflammatoryagentisconsideredtoinhibitairwayinflammationintheasthmatics.Theaimofcurrentarticleistoreviewthelatestevidencesregardingtheimplicationoflycopeneinairwayinflammation.Forthispurpose,publishedPapersinU.S.NationalLibraryofMedicine–NationalInstitutesofHealth(Pubmed)werereviewed.Evidencesshowedthatlycopenecanprotectcellsfrominflammationviaitsredox-basedpropertyonsuppressionofnuclearfactor-kappaB(NF-κB),whichisakeynucleicfactorthatfacilitatestheproductionofinflammatorybiomarkers.Therefore,ithasbeensuggestedthatconsumingfreshvegetablesandfruits(especiallytomato)asthesourcesoflycopenecanhelpasthmaticstodecreaseairwayinflammation.
