Pennsylvanianmicrospinate/spinatemio-andmicrosporesareformerlyassignedtocingulatespeciesofLycospora(Schopfetal.),whichweredescribedbyPotonieKremp.Inthepresentpaper,fromthethreeexistingspeciesofdistallymicrospinatemiosporesofthistype[L.granulataKosanke,L.orbicula(PotonieKremp)SmithButterworthandL.chaloneriScottHemsley]twoofthem,L.orbiculaandL.chaloneriareassignedtonewpseudosaccatemiosporegenusMicrospinosporitesgen.nov.Miosporesofthisgenusarecharacterizedbyinnerbodyanddistalandproximalmicrospinae/spinae,exceptforthecontactarea.Acingulumisnotdeveloped.ThefructificationsthatproducedMicrospinosporiteswerebisporangiateconesofthegeneraFlemingitesCarruthersandprobablyMoscvostrobusNaugolnykhOrlova,andwerebornonarborescentlycopsidsofthegenusParalycopodites(MooreyMoorey)DiMichele.ThemorphologyofMicrospinosporitesissimilartothatofe.g.,Geminospora(Balme)Playfordandsomeotherpseudosaccatemiosporegenera.
