Weexaminedstatisticalcorrelationsbetweenthefrequenciesofsevenproposednucleosomepositioningmotifsandthedensitiesofrepetitivesequencesinthehumangenome.Forbothparametricandnon-parametricmeasuresofstatisticalcorrelationsthereisatendencyforrepetitivesequencedensitytobenegativelycorrelatedwiththedensityofR/Y-basednucleosomepositioningmotifs,whilebeingpositivelycorrelatedwiththatofW/S-basedmotifs.Theseresultslargelyholdevenwhenmotifsareexaminedonlywithinrepeat-filteredsequences.TheRRRRRYYYYYmotifandits5-baseshiftYYYYYRRRRR,inparticular,isover-representedinthehumangenome;anditsnegativecorrelationisconsistentlypresentatdifferentregionsandatdifferentlengthscales.Forsomeothernucleosomepositioningmotifs,therelationshipwithrepeatscanberegionalorlengthscaledependent.Consideringtheimportanceofnucleosomeformationinepigeneticregulations,theseresultsmayprovidenewinsighttotheevolutionofrepetitivesequences.
