【 摘 要 】
glialcellsmissing(gcm)istheprimaryregulatorofglialcellfateinDrosophila.Inaddition,gcmhasaroleinthedifferentiationoftheplasmatocyte/macrophagelineageofhemocytes.Sincemutationofgcmcausesonlyadecreaseinplasmatocytenumberswithoutchangingtheirabilitytoconvertintomacrophages,gcmcannotbethesoledeterminantofplasmatocyte/macrophagedifferentiation.Wehavecharacterizedagcmhomolog,gcm2.gcm2isexpressedatlowlevelsinglialcellsandhemocyteprecursors.Weshowthatgcm2hasredundantfunctionswithgcmandhasaminorrolepromotingglialcelldifferentiation.Moresignificant,likegcm,mutationofgcm2leadstoreducedplasmatocytenumbers.Adeletionremovingbothgeneshasallowedustoclarifytheroleoftheseredundantgenesinplasmatocytedevelopment.Animalsdeficientforbothgcmandgcm2failtoexpressthemacrophagereceptorCroquemort.Plasmatocytesarereducedinnumber,butstillexpresstheearlymarkerPeroxidasin.ThesePeroxidasin-expressinghemocytesfailtomigratetotheirnormallocationsanddonotcompletetheirconversionintomacrophages.Ourresultssuggestthatbothgcmandgcm2arerequiredtogetherfortheproliferationofplasmatocyteprecursors,theexpressionofCroquemortprotein,andtheabilityofplasmatocytestoconvertintomacrophages.
