【 摘 要 】

Invertebrates,tendonsconnectmusclestoskeletalelements.Surgicalexperimentsinthechickhaveunderlineddevelopmentalinteractionsbetweentendonsandmuscles.Initialformationoftendonsoccursautonomouslywithrespecttomuscle.However,furthertendondevelopmentrequiresthepresenceofmuscle.Themolecularsignalsinvolvedintheseinteractionsremainunknown.Inthechicklimb,Fgf4transcriptsarelocatedattheextremitiesofmuscles,wherethefuturetendonswillattach.Inthispaper,weanalysetheputativeroleofmuscle-Fgf4ontendondevelopment.Wehaveusedthreegeneraltendonmarkers,scleraxis,tenascin,andFgf8toanalysetheregulationofthesetendon-associatedmoleculesbyFgf4underdifferentexperimentalconditions.IntheabsenceofFgf4,inmusclelessandaneurallimbs,theexpressionofthethreetendon-associatedmolecules,scleraxis,tenascin,andFgf8,isdown-regulated.ExogenousimplantationofFgf4innormal,aneural,andmusclelesslimbsinducesscleraxisandtenascinexpressionbutnotthatofFgf8.TheseresultsindicatethatFgf4expressedinmuscleisrequiredforthemaintenanceofscleraxisandtenascinbutnotFgf8expressionintendons.
