【 摘 要 】

Thediversityofdevelopmentalprogramspresentinanimalphylafirstevolvedwithintheworld'soceans,anaquaticenvironmentteemingwithanabundanceofmicrobiallife.Allstagesinthelifehistoriesoftheseearlyanimalsbecameadaptedtomicroorganismsbathingtheirtissues,andcountlessexamplesofanimal–bacterialassociationshavearisenasaresult.Thusfar,ithasbeendifficultforbiologiststodesignwaysofdeterminingtheextenttowhichtheseassociationshaveinfluencedthebiologyofanimals,includingtheirdevelopmentalpatterns.Thefollowingreviewfocusesonanemergingfield,thegoalofwhichistounderstandtheinfluenceofbacteriaonanimaldevelopmentalprograms.Thisintegrativeareaofresearchisundergoingarevolutionthathasresultedfromadvancesintechnologyandthedevelopmentofsuitableanimal–bacterialsystemsforthestudyofthesecomplexassociations.Inthiscontribution,thecurrentstatusofthefieldisreviewedandtheemergingresearchhorizonsareexamined.
