【 摘 要 】

Themammaliansuperiorcolliculusisstructurallyandfunctionallydividedintotwoentities:superficialvisualanddeepmultimodalmotor.Todiscovertherole,ifany,ofdevelopmentalprocessesinestablishingseparatetectalcompartments,wehaveusedhighlyunbalancedmousechimaerastomarkcelldispersionpathwaysandtracecelllineages.Twoformsofcelldispersionweredetected:radialandtangential.Neitherradialnortangentialformsofcelldispersionwerefoundtoexistontheirowninanygroupoflabeledcells.Radialcelldispersionwasthepredominantformofcellmovementfromthegerminalzonesandprimarilyassociatedwiththedifferentiationofglutamatergicneurons.Incontrast,tangentialcelldispersioninvolvedaminorityoftectalcells,concentratedchieflyinthesuperficiallayersandoftenassociatedwiththeupperaspectsofradialcolumns.Morescatteredcellsexpressedγ-aminobutyricacid(GABA)comparedtocolumnarcells.Takentogether,theseresultsindicateseparatedevelopmentalconstraintsforthedevelopmentofglutamatergicandGABAergicneuronsinthesuperiorcolliculus.
