【 摘 要 】
AsimplemethodformaintainingthetailofRanatemporariatadpolesforupto8daysinorganculturehasbeendescribed.Regressionoftheisolatedtailwasinducedbytheadditionoftriiodothyroninetotheculturemedium.Therateofregressionandtheincreaseinactivityofsomehydrolyticenzymeswerecomparabletothoseobservedinthetailsofintacttadpolesundergoingmetamorphosis.CulturedtailsarecapableofsynthesizingRNAandproteinasseenfromtheincorporationofH3-labeleduridineandC14-labeledaminoacids.Hormone-inducedregressionwasaccompaniedbyanacceleratedsynthesisofbothRNAandprotein.ActinomycinD,puromycin,andcycloheximideabolishedregressionandincreaseinhydrolaseactivityintheisolatedtailsinducedbytriiodothyronine.Underconditionsinwhichregressionwasinhibited,actinomycinDandcycloheximideblockedtheincorporationofH3-uridineintoRNA,andpuromycinandcycloheximidethatofC14-aminoacidsintoprotein.AcontinuousgenerationofRNAandproteinisassociatedwiththehormone-inducedregressionoftheisolatedtadpoletail.
